This course will provide dental assistants with the proper educational requirements as stated in Illinois law for application of pit and fissure sealants and coronal polishing which includes didactic study in anatomy, physiology, pharmacology, and dental emergencies followed by a written exam. This course will also include two hours of clinical experience on pit and fissure sealants and two hours on coronal polishing. The clinical instruction on coronal polishing will include work performed on a human subject.
Each participant must agree to act as a patient for coronal polishing. In addition, each participant must follow the OSHA guidelines for infection control and use of clinical Personal Protective Equipment (i.e., gloves, mask, eyewear, and clinic gown).
Rise Dental Academy includes three certifications, materials, scrubs, and books -- without any hidden fees! In addition, every student has an opportunity to train with one of our Rise Doctors practicing on real patients prior to completion of the program.
Dental sealants are thin coatings that when painted on the chewing surfaces of the back teeth can prevent cavities for many years. Sealants protect the chewing surfaces from cavities by covering them with a protective shield that blocks out germs and food. Once applied, sealants protect against 80% of cavities for 2 years and continue to protect against 50% of cavities for up to 4 years.
Coronal Polishing is a technique used to remove plaque and stain from the coronal surfaces of the teeth. Polishing teeth removes extrinsic stains, dental plaque accumulation, increases aesthetics and reduces corrosion of restorations caused by poor dental habits and hygiene.
